The kind of game were you can take your time getting to a specific quest marker or boring mission. So, we have our listed top 5 personal best open world games you can play.

In no specific order.

Number 1: Skyrim

FUS RO DA! where would this list be without the one game that has taken more of my time than any other? Skyrim (like many others) has almost infinite replay ability from exploring the vast mountain ranges to the bustling cities, fighting bosses in dungeons and levelling up your many attributes to fit your play style Skyrim has everything to quench the players thirst.

For being 8 years old Skyrim still has magnificent beauty in it's game; high open mountain tops for astonishing views to dark underground caverns filled with monsters and tight areas that make the player feel claustrophobic, all this combines with great game mechanics and you have yourself a recipe for for a great open world game. However, if you eventually run out of quests and find yourself to be the most overpowered entity ever, do not worry because you have countless more time to play in the 3 DLC's the game has to offer or even the custom modding content by the Skyrim community at your disposal.

Number 2: Grand Theft Auto V

Link to buy the game

Grand theft auto V, the game that has sold 110 million copies and is still being updated to this day with it's newest update being the diamond casino and resort. GTA V has amazing sound design and graphics, an open world aspect that makes all the GTA games so fun.

GTA V, unlike some of the other games on our list has a fully fledged multiplayer. Meaning, all the open world fun will be shared with your friends or a variety of different people on a online lobby. However, if you are not a fan of sharing your multiplayer experience with other people there are many options for single player modes, like the single player campaign world to the multiplayer solo options. Also, there is not a shortage of things to get up to on a online lobby from, robbing a convenience store to a full scale bank robbery or prison escape and then the option to take your hard earned winnings to do whatever the player sees fit. With this level of design and endless play ability GTA V is a great example of what a more real life, modern, open world game can accomplish.

Number 3: Mad Max

What's could be more fun than riding an armoured vehicle through a post apocalyptic wasteland? Mad Max has this point going for it in were your four wheeled machine is your guardian protector. Unlike, GTA were you do spend most of your time in a vehicle it's not necessary, in Mad Max, it is strictly necessary to keep you four wheeled companion around at all times. From it's harpoon being able to rip down gates, towers and other vehicles in fights, to it's mobility allowing you to tackle harsh terrain or lovely ramming capability to take down enemies vehicles; with all this Mad Max is a unique treasure of an open world game for the fact that the player will spend most of their time in a death machine on wheels. Although, there are parts of the game were the player will need to leave there trusted vehicle to explore areas that cannot support or are too small for their vehicle but for the post part you will be inside your vehicle.

Mad Max, is a very dark, bleak game with not a lot of colour variety due to it's post apocalyptic setting. however, this does not deprive this game of astonishing beauty with lots of amazing places to explore and discover at the players own pleasure. This game is a marvel for it's fundamental game mechanic and well designed world.

Number 4: Red Dead Redemption 2

From, starting a bar fight, robbing a train or buying yourself a lovely steed this game as many hours of fun, old western shenanigans.

Red Dead Redemption 2, is the second game on our list to have a fully fledged multiplayer. Like GTA V the multiplayer and single player are separated and both have different gameplay options from the multiplayer team death matches to the single player multi choice dialog options with varied outcomes of specific situations. Red Dead Redemption 2 takes from the first and upgrades it with new mechanics and more play ability. This game at it's core is a stunning masterpiece of visuals, sound and gameplay.
